Be Present in Nature
One of my favorite activities at the cabin is going for hikes in the woods, though my wife and I have very different hiking philosophies. My wife likes to hike briskly for exercise, while I prefer to stroll and take in nature's beauty - identifying trees, spotting wildlife, sampling berries, and investigating old wooden logs.
This model invites you to be present in nature, taking in the sights (sounds? smells?) of an old wooden log from all sides. Follow the grain of the wood. Count the rings. Algae cascades down the sides, joining a flowering moss which rises from the forest floor. A beetle emerges. A slug slides beneath a fallen branch. A dragonfly appears, as if suspended in the air. Ladybugs scramble up the sides. And unbeknownst to the bugs, shielded from view, a bullfrog sits atop the log awaiting its next meal...
