Asteroid Gas Station
My granddaughter and I worked on this design about the future of space travel together.
Last year we went to the planetarium in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and we learned that asteroids are rich in resources such as water that could be turned into fuel and precious metals like gold. The presenter said one day asteroids could be mined for these resources or turned into cosmic gas stations for long space trips.
Our model shows part of an asteroid, a astronaut, and a small space station where the astronaut could live while harvesting the resources. It also has an interstellar gas station on the roof.
The model has a zipline so the astronaut can safely space walk, and it leads the astronaut to the mining operation. There is a living space with a bed and a computer desk and console. The gas station is on the roof and a space ship is gassing up.
Also included in the model is a robot to help with the mining operations. The robot has a small ship and a recharging station that can also be its bed.
