Architecture: Bruges Market Square

The Market Square, at the heart of the city of Bruges (Belgium), dates back to the 10th century. It was the scene for many medieval festivals and fairs. Nowadays it is one of the city’s touristic highlights, as well as a popular meeting place.

The most striking landmark is the Cloth Hall with its 83 meter high Belfry clock tower. Other notable buildings are the Provincial Palace and Post Office Building, on the left.

While you’re visiting, be sure to get some Belgian fries at one of the food stalls in front of the Belfry. Or hop on a horse drawn carriage for a guided tour of the medieval city!

After building a part of my hometown Ghent in a similar style, Bruges was the obvious next choice as I studied 3 years in this wonderful city. I really enjoy the challenge of building at this scale, so more cities will probably follow 😊

This 1:500 scale model covers a 32x32 stud baseplate and measures 18 cm high.
