Architecture: VDL Headquarters, Netherlands
As an Architecture student, I often use Lego to aid in my design process. It is intuitive, scaled and really fun! I have been making mocs now for a while, and occasionally get requests for making someone's favourite city skyline, a bike or even a display guitar. This time I have been commisioned to design the VDL office (VDL hoofdkantoor) In Lego form. This model contains over 3000 pieces, and has a footprint of 6 16x16 plates. It is made as detailed as possible, and features all details of the existing building. It has shading banners over the windows, made of 1x2 grille elements, the grey striping, and the outer steel reinforcement structures, recreated with bars and candle pieces. The roof has been built upside down, to created texture. It also is removable, to reveil the upper floor conference hall. The parking space in front is a bit stylised, to keep the model easthetic and symmetrical.
