Ode to Ice Station Odyssey
'Twas nineteen-hundred and ninety-three
When LEGO made Ice Station Odyssey
I had grand plans to play
Space Police would save the day!
But alas, it was not to be
How I dreamed of saving Planet Krysto
With our team led by Commander Cold
343 pieces of fun
I'd play till the day was done
On a raised baseplate covered in snow
Though as a child, my parents said "no"
I hope that my bank account will grow
So that as a grown-up
My savings will blow up
And the coolest set I will then own!
I built the micro version of Ice Station Odyssey as a gift to my husband, and wrote the silly poem above from his 10-year-old perspective. I personally did not grow up with any LEGO (Dad stepped on one too many tiny doll shoes.) But my husband grew up with several small sets. His parents would buy him the little ones, he'd follow the instructions, then pour all the pieces into a big bucket that eventually became multicolored castles and spaceships. The big orange elements were his favorite part of this set.
