Quidditch Match Merry-Go-Round Carousel
As we rejoin the Quidditch match, disaster as Draco Malfoy has stolen the lead from Harry Potter and is closing in on the snitch! But wait there are now two snitches and two Marcus Flint’s? This is highly irregular, someone is working some magic to confuse Harry, but don’t worry Hermine Granger has now joined in to even the odds!
The Quidditch match is one of the main highlights over the last 20 years, and one of the most tricky to do in Lego as needs animation with a kinetic model. So a merry-go-round carousel seemed the simplest way to keep the magic of flying broomsticks alive, while keeping the same shape as a birthday cake with all the flags representing candles.
I found the previous working carousels were far too large and detailed, whereas I wanted to keep to less than 400 currently available pieces to make it possible for fans to recreate their own stories.
The animation is shown here https://youtu.be/LlsrfnG2-DI using an XL power function motor geared down 6 times.
