Creatures - The Basilisk

The Basilisk is the King of Serpents. It made its first appearance in The Chamber of Secrets. A Basilisk can kill by eye contact or can stun by making eye contact in a reflection. In the chamber, Salazar Slytherin kept a Basilisk in hopes that his heir would open the chamber and purge Hogwarts of muggle-borns. Tom Riddle first opened the chamber, and then Ginny Weasley, whom Tom possessed. Harry defeated the Basilisk in the chamber with the Sword of Gryffindor and Fawkes the phoenix. And finally, in the deathly hallows Ron destroys Helga Hufflepuff's cup with a fang from the same basilisk.
