"His Master's Voice" Nipper and Gramophone
Here's Nipper the dog listening to a recording of "His Master's Voice" as it plays on a gramophone.
Nipper has been a much loved musical icon since he was originally painted by Francis Barraud in 1899.
Today, Nipper is widely recognised as the trademark of the HMV Co. which incidentally celebrates 100 years in 2021.
I've always thought the image of a dog listening to the voice of his master evocative and touching, so I thought it was about time Nipper was honoured with his own Lego model.
I used the original painting as my reference and tried to include the detail in the gramophone and capture Nipper's character. Hopefully I've captured Nipper's expression, getting the angle of his head and ears was a real challenge.
I wanted to build the gramophone horn in gold, but couldn't source the bricks.
I built a display plinth for Nipper and the gramophone. You can remove them for more display options.
I hope you feel I've done Nipper justice, this has been a real labour of love.
Thanks for looking.
