His Master's Voice
Nipper is fascinated by the sound of a gramophone: an iconic image in the history of music!
The trademark image comes from a painting by English artist Francis Barraud titled His Master's Voice, and was used by the Gramophone Co, now HMV. Francis inherited Nipper from his brother as well as recordings of his voice. He noted the peculiar interest that the dog took in the recorded voice of his late master, and decided to paint the scene.
The model features:
- The wind-up disc gramophone with a wooden base, a vinyl record, the handle to wind it up, the stylus which traces the grooves in the record and the golden horn which directs the sound into the air.
- Nipper, the terrier-mix dog who is sitting on his back legs with his head cocked in curiosity at the sound coming from the gramophone. His two brown ears and all his legs can be angled on hinges, as well as his head which can be placed in many positions on a ball joint.
