Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree
After numerous months away, a brave hero returns to his home
and his sweetheart, who has been patiently waiting for his return. While Bill
was away, he and his girl, Minnie, kept in close contact through detailed
letters. During that time, they each carried a song in their hearts to remind
them of the other, until they would meet again. Now that Bill was home, the
dedicated couple bicycled to their favorite spot beneath a massive apple tree,
situated off of Lovers’ Lane, to have a picnic. In this idyllic setting, they
ate and sang the song that held them together throughout the long months.
This model is a
visualization of the song Don’t Sit Under
the Apple Tree (With Anyone Else but Me), as it was performed by the
Andrews Sisters and Glenn Miller in the 1940’s. Containing 1,318 bricks, the
model includes Lovers’ Lane, the Apple Tree, a quaint wooden arch, and part of
a fishing pond; a rabbit,
a blackbird, a bluebird, and a frog all reside in the shelter of the Apple Tree Grove.
