Monos Base (Ice Planet 2002)
On the furthest reaches of the planet Krypto, a small research base sits in frigid isolation. Here, Commander Cold has sent one of his best technicians to research powering rockets with the energy of mysterious local crystals. It can be lonely out there, but that isn’t to say it doesn’t have its perks-- the television signal comes in fine, and the icy environs provide plenty of storage for frozen pizza!
I’ve always loved Ice Planet 2002, and this contest seemed like the perfect incentive to build something within that world. I tried to evoke the theme’s stylistic simplicity with modern pieces and building techniques, taking influence from mid-20th century futurism to imagine their idea of what the distant future of 2002 might hold. Finding ways to connect some larger pieces in unexpected orientations was a fun challenge in this pursuit.
Although the neon orange windows let in light for the technician, the side walls for the compound are detachable to allow for interior access.
