Abacus

When it comes to maths how about a simple abacus?
Not really mechanically complex, you just move the beads around.

Top bead is worth 5, bottom ones are worth 1 each. Each row is an order of magnitude (1 in first row means 1, in second row means 10, and so on).
The demo consists of putting 6 in there, and then adding 16
(add five, move the 10 total to the next row, then add 1 and 10)
