Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let Down Your Hair!
The story of Rapunzel is a popular German fairy tale from the Grimm brothers about a girl with beautiful long hair and the prince who saves her from the tower she is locked in. This story fits in perfectly with the theme of the pop-up book, being the whimsical adventure and love story it is.
I was inspired by the Disney movie Tangled, which is based on the story of Rapunzel. I decided to recreate the village the prince takes Rapunzel to after he rescues her. It includes two buildings and a market, as well as a tree. In the background Rapunzel's tower can be seen.
I wanted the pop up to have more depth than the two studs the insert provides, so I used a system of clips to make the market's awning and side wall swing out further while still being able to fold up and allow the book to close.
I have included three minifigures: Rapunzel, Prince Flynn, and a farmer running the fruit stand. I have also included Flynn's horse Maximus, and Rapunzel's lizard, Pascal.
