Walt, a Portrait Painted in Brick

For the 100th anniversary celebration of Disney, I decided to make a portrait of the man himself and give just a small glimpse into what he created.

I used Walt’s signature to add a custom sticker. I also liked the idea of being able to display a 100th minifig, if you wanted. I would have done a custom Walt, but I tried to limit myself to only parts I had on hand already.

I was inspired by the feel of The Rolling Stones art set, where it felt like painting in brick and I wanted to create an art set that could hang on your wall, and feel like painting using the shapes of the bricks. It was a fun task to try and recreate organic shapes in brick. I found myself redesigning parts right up to the deadline. I also loved the Easter egg in the Stones set, but felt if I were going to do something similar, I wanted it easily accessible. By Tugging on Walt’s right ear his head opens like a book to reveal a whistling Steam Boat Willie, his ship’s wheel, Cinderella’s Castle, with fireworks.
