Self-Contained Exploration Vehicle
The Self-Contained Exploration Vehicle (SCEV) is a pressurized winged vehicle with four rocket engines. When it lands on mars, its wings detach and it uses electric motors to drive on brief exploration missions. To get to mars in one piece, the cabin of the SCEV includes two driver seats, two passenger seats, a storage compartment with two spare helmets, a long workbench, a life support system, a small dining area, and a small kitchen. The electric battery doesn’t last long enough to allow for full colonization, but by using its wings to hop around to different points of interest, the vehicle could scout out colonizing spots.
