Location: Cat's Eye Nebula

Gazing back at Earth from across space is the Cat's Eye Nebula (NGC 6543), a dying star that pulses out rings of gas and dust every 1,500 years. The concentric rings overlap around the white inner core, forming the image of a peering eye.
