Vintage Transportion: Shay
For my entry I built a Shay train going through a mountain. This model uses 2444 pieces. Shays are an interesting steam engine because the pistons are on a side of the locomotive and power a gear shaft and the boiler is offset. Shays were usually used for hauling wood. All of the wheels including the tender are controlled by a central gear shaft. My Shay is going over a small wooden trestle carrying a carload of wood. Behind the track there is a ravine with a waterfall. There is also a stream that is cutting through the forest floor. I really enjoyed using many different building techniques from doing the trees and water to the Shay.
