Kusama's Polka Dots
This is a creation inspired by the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. She has training in traditional Japanese art, but is a contemporary artist known and recognised for her use of polka dots and infinity rooms.
I have not had the pleasure to experience her installations or infinity room exhibitions but the pictures I've enjoyed exploring brings a sense of calm - getting lost in the endless space she's created and repetition of dots is quite mesmerising.
There is a mirror placed on one side to represent her use of mirrors in the infinity rooms and have included a covering of small, medium and large dots. She also repeated dots on pumpkin structures so this has been included as well; Some of the dots glow in the dark to represent the LED lights she uses in some of her exhibitions.
I love how Kusama matches her artwork, dressing in polka dots, being completely absorbed in her 'obsession' or 'release' and she has been included here, front and centre.
