Japan Through the Ages:
This model demonstrates three stages of Japan in different time periods: Modern, Heian, and Cultural Japan. The base of the model represents the Japanese art of Kintsugi. The order of the model goes left to right; the meaning of this is to recognize how the Japanese people read and write. Depicted in the background is the legendary volcano, Mt. Fugi.
Cultural:
In the first frame are two of Japan’s famed mythological creatures: the Ryu and the Kirin. In Japanese culture, these two creatures represent wisdom, strength, but also punishment for the wicked and the evil-deemed.
Heian:
Considered the classical period of Japan, the Heian period is famed for its recognizable architecture in temples and with them would be a torii gate, which represents the border between sacred and special world.
Modern:
Some of the buildings in this frame are the WeWork Iceberg and the Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower. A bullet train is featured to illustrate Japan’s rapidly progressing technology and improvement.
