Toro Nagashi - Water Lantern Festival
Tōrō Nagashi is a Japanese tradition in which lanterns are set down on a river. The custom is to remember one's family, friends and ancestors.
Tōro is the Japanese word for "lantern," while Nagashi means "cruise" or "flow".
I've always found the solemnity of this custom and the way the lanterns reflect in the water very beautiful.
I designed this scene to feature the Lanterns primarily, but I wanted to create a Japanese atmosphere to complement the ceremony, so I made a towering red Torii gate that leads to the river. Next to the river is a Sakura tree, with some of its leaves scattered across the ground. There's a small bamboo forest next to the Torii Gate, and of course several Minifigs coming to set lanterns down the river.
I hope you enjoy this scene, and I hope I've been able to honour such a beautiful aspect of Japanese culture! 🇯🇵
