FIRST PLACE PRIZE

FIRST PLACE PRIZE

In addition to standing for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology,” FIRST also refers to the winner, or champion; thus, I found it fitting to spell FIRST with Legos, and put it on a trophy.

The FIRST LEGO League is a charity competition that uses Lego Mindstorms and Technic to teach, well, science and technology to school children. That is why I have spelled “FIRST” in Lego Technic gears.

Consisting of exactly 400 parts, this model naturally presented several challenges: the largest of these was to get the gears to align, so they would all turn, while still being able to capture the turns and twists of the “R” and “S.” In the end, I was forced to place 29 1x9 technic liftarms in a row to form a base for the gears.

In doing this, however, I was able to add a special function: spin the crank on the bottom left-hand side, and the entire lettering spins.

Happy building, and may the best prize win one!
