Into the Unknown
Presented here is my entry into the Moments in Space contest, titled "Into the Unknown".
The model depicts planet Earth encircled by a rocket ship, destined to explore a far-away world outer space. I intended the model to reflect both the real world, and the imaginary world created through the medium of LEGO; hence the fusion between our planet, and a timeless rocket design.
The similarity to what is known as the Classic Space logo is no accident. 2018 marks forty years since the first formally-named LEGO Space sets were released, and this is intended as a subtle yet fitting homage to that timeless logo that appeared in so many sets.
Planet Earth in this model is based upon the so-called Lowell Sphere, that has seen variations appear in fan creations and LEGO sets alike. Using a simple studs-out design uses an advanced building technique while keeping the model free from complexity.
