One Small Step for Dragon, One Giant Leap for Dragonkind

"Mission control, we've made contact with an earthling... I really thought they would be more talkative."

Inspired by my son's love of tales of friendly, intelligent dragons this set imagines the first landing of the inquisitive species on an apparently inhabited world.

The set consists of a "dragon egg" lander which opens to hold one black dragon and also features a version of the same dragon suited up for extravehicular activity framed by a farm backdrop.

The dragons were built first so accommodating the dragon's substantial wings while retaining the egg-like shape was a particular challenge.  After numerous iterations a door mechanism supported by a handful of technic pieces provided a compound hinge that allowed the egress door to provide a stratifying gap-less closure from completely open .

The flag, with decal provided from 70618 Destiny's Bounty, placed by the explorer commemorates this first cautious step.
