Celebrate: The Workshop Where the Brick's Story Began!

In the immediate aftermath of World War II Ole Kirk Christiansen, the LEGO Group's founder, purchased a single moulding machine. Upon delivery it was installed in a corner of the woodworking factory which had been constructed behind Ole Kirk's house. It was here that the story of the LEGO brick began amidst the bustling woodworking shop where fabulous wooden toys were made.

This build re-creates that woodworking shop where the forerunners to the modern LEGO brick, were manufactured. It is based on historical schematics preserved in the LEGO Group's archive and includes real world details such as the dual levels of the shop, the elevated loading doors where packages of finished toys were loaded onto horse and buggy, and the many stations that toys went through as they were carefully crafted. Both the woodworking tools and the moulding machine are based on historical photos of the actual implements used in the factory at this time. This is where the story of the LEGO brick began!
