Beholder's Lair

Barry floated back and forth through his cave, careful not to hit his eyestalks on the stalactites. It had been almost five days since his most recent TPK* and he was starting to feel bored, and hungry. He regretted turning that plump little dwarf wizard into stone; such a waste of what could have been a rather tasty snack. 

He decided to continue work on carving out his lair using his disintegration ray, and while working on a new alcove for his latest dwarf statue he was interrupted by the faint echo of voices. He paused for a moment, and the voices slowly grew louder until he could almost make out what they were saying. "The artifact must be this way." 

Barry then saw the familiar orange glow of an adventurer's torch coming up through the dark tunnel. His eyestalks tingled with excitement. Dinner was approaching.
