Concept: TWH3SEBAR (Two-Wheeled Self-Balancing Robot)
MINDSTORMS has alwasy been a great opportinity for young and old to start learning how to program!
As kids and teens learn really fast and may search for new challenges regarding their MINDSTORMS programs, I thought of this concept that takes their knowledge about programming techniques to the next level, if the first five robots start becoming boring.
The self-balancing robot has only two wheels and a high center-of-gravity that would cause him to tip really quick. But the Ultrasonic Sensor measures the distance to the ground, knows whether it's leaning back or forward and controls the motors to keep the robot in an upright position.
Therefore, a PID-Controller is implemented (pic 5) which will help all users to learn about this very important control mechanism that is used in various applications. The Gyro-Sensor can also be used to further improve the code.
(Unfortunately, I don't own any of the MINDSTORMS Sets, so I had to build a digital robot and was not able to verify the code.)
