Build: SPIR@L MAK3R
The SPIR@L MAK3R is a spirograph-like robot that draws repeating spiral patterns. I have built several versions over the years, and it's always a big hit. Quick adjustment of the pen result in different spirals (sometimes with surprising results), so the possibilities are endless and the fun is everlasting!
The model consists of:
- A rotating platform with a paper holder.
- An adjustable pen holder that swings back and forth. The pen can be adjusted by undoing a couple of pins and changing the lengths/positions of the beams. Each position gives a unique result!
- A bump sensor for an on/off switch.
This is a model that appeals to people of all ages and genders, and has excellent playability. My two kids have spent hours making hundreds of different patterns with colorful pens. They have made greeting cards, wall decorations, bookmarks, and more. This is definitely a model that would be used over and over again.
