The 501st Speeding Into the Holidays (Mechanical Model)
When I saw this contest, I knew right away what I would build: a motorized MOC! Amazing opportunity to combine two of my passions: Lego robotics and Star Wars with my most favorite holiday theme.
A single motor from the Lego Boost Set (17101) is used to spin two background images directly through an axle. A gear on the axle connects with multiple other gears turning a gearbox. Another axel in the gearbox is connected to a small spinning beam. A moveable platform is at the top with two 2x2 rounded pipes attached to the bottom of the platform. When the beam spins around, it hits the pipe and pushes it up. Then the platform changes direction, lifting the 501st speeder bike’s front half into the air and creating an illusion of the bike moving up and down, symbolizing how the speeder bike would be jumping into the holidays. Santa on the background image and the front, Christmas tree, wrapped gift, fireplace, “XO”, and “Happy Holidays” sign are all contributing to the holiday festivity.
