Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump is one of my top ten favourite 90s movies. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry and it makes me reflect on what’s important in life … the little things. Just like the beautiful feather that floats down and lands at Forrest’s feet, life is made up of a series of little moments to be enjoyed and amazed by. For me the feather also symbolises how life is full of sliding door moments, circumstance and situation. That feather could’ve landed anywhere and become just another part of the background, but it landed in front of Forrest, who saw the beauty in this little moment. And the reason why he was sitting in that particular spot at the bus stop was to set up the last act, his reunion with Jenny and meeting his son.
Life truly is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get. Whatever life threw at Forrest, he dealt with it in the only way he knew how, with kindness, humour (albeit unintentional) and courage.
