Functional Orrery

One of my favorite things about LEGO Ideas is how beautiful they are to keep on display when we're not playing with them with the kids. I wanted to make something that would make a wonderful display in addition to a fun nod to a model that's been around for hundreds of years.

An orrery is a functional model of the solar system. Many of the orreries throughout history have left the brass gears exposed to show the mechanism as it worked, so I left the gears in the open to see them working. With a 215 piece count, this model is a perfect display to have on your desk or shelf to start some great conversations
