Chinese Moon Festival
The Chinese Moon
Festival is one of China’s most important holidays. Also known as Mid-Autumn
Festival, and celebrated across East and Southeast-Asia, the Moon Festival
symbolizes family unity and is an occasion on which the extended family reunites
and marvels at the evening moon. Legend has it that Chang’e (Mandarin: 嫦娥), the Chinese moon goddess, inhabits the moon. Beautiful but lonely, she
and her loyal companion, the moon rabbit who constantly pounds the elixir
of life, dwell under an immortal cassia tree for all eternity. If you stare at
the moon’s ragged surface long enough, you may notice the magnificent tree’s
shadow!
Please reach for
the stars and support this 250 part point landing of Chinese culture and tradition. Much
love.
PS: Did you know that the Chinese lunar exploration missions Chang’e 1-8 are the moon goddess’ namesakes? Well now you do.
