The Hogwarts Carriage Ride
I loved the carriage rides back to school in the Harry Potter books. For me they represented the moment right before all the good stuff kicked off, and the wonderful suspense that came with that.
With so many Lego carriage sets already out there I decided to try my hand at building a hansom cab. Still a carriage of sorts and a wonderful piece of victorian heritage, brilliantly evocative of other super detectives like Sherlock Holmes. I think you could squeeze four Hogwarts students in one of these if you include the drivers’ seat at the back? I’ve pimped up my Slytherin carriage with a gold snake ‘hood ornament’ too - if Lucius Malfoy could buy the Quidditch team a full set of fancy broomsticks, I don’t think it’s a far stretch to assume he wouldn’t seize another opportunity to show off his wealth.
Lastly, I’m quite chuffed with my ‘Witchcraft and Wizardry’ gates, and their cauldron planters, I’m also glad I managed to squeeze in an owlery - for everything else, there’s a signpost.
