The Black Seas Barracuda (1989)

The Black Seas Barracuda is a very significant LEGO set in my family. It was originally given to my father in 1989 when his older sister, my aunt, got a tumor on her head. It was a very hard time for him, but this set helped him get through it. His sister recovered, but even so this set has been of a very high value to him (and me) ever since.

I have here an accurate micro-scale representation. I made a point to use a piece from the original build in my model. If you look at the prow, you will see Captain Redbeard's epaulets, proudly featured on the very front of the ship.

I tried a few different methods on the sails. I considered brick built, but they were too bulky, and didn't fit the scale of the model. Then, I had the idea of using capes.

I have also included a large cast of stud figures in the set. We have, from left to right, The great Captain Redbeard, seaman #1, seaman #2, Pirate Lady, The mate, and last, but not least, the monkey.

I hope you enjoy!
