Galaxy Explorer
Classic Space has gone down in history as one of LEGO's greatest themes. Of all the sets released between 1978 and 1987, one of the most iconic and instantly recognisable models was number 497-1 - the Galaxy Explorer.
Now, over 40 years after its release in 1979, collectors and builders around the world continue to give new life to the classic set, to such an effect that LEGO itself released a redesign (you probably already knew that).
This model aims to recreate the iconic set in microscale, utilising modern pieces and techniques to achieve an accurate, yet interesting design. I hope it is recognisable... The piece count is 604, which is interestingly 79% higher than that of the original.
Unfortunately, I wasn't around when Classic Space was on shelves, so I never got to experience this set first-hand, but I hope that this model represents the spirit of the theme. Hope you enjoy!
