5988 Pharaoh's Forbidden Ruins

When I entered this competition it was really only one set that was an option for me: the 5988 - Pharaoh's Forbidden Ruins.

This set means the world to me. Back in 1998 my mom bought this set in a post-christmas sale, intended as a birthday gift for me two months later. But only one month after the purchase, she sadly passed away due to a heart condition. That same night I got to open the set my now dead mother bought, to keep my mind off the situation, and an early birthday gift. Needless to say, this was an emotional build for me.

I love all the details in the set. From the falling rocks in the entrance, to the skeleton trap in the back of the temple. And the unforgettable vehicles with the truck and the hot-air balloon. It was a blast remaking my childhood memories, albeit the grim backstory. I made sure not to copy elements from the entry basted off the same set, aswell as only picking avaliable bricks.
