Summer Beach Ultimate
Playing Ultimate on the beach with friends is a classic summer tradition. Many have not had that opportunity in the last year as we've taken social distancing precautions, but this set reminds us that soon we will be able to take up that tradition again.
Ultimate is usually played between teams of 7 players on a field which is 40 yards by 120 yards, divided into two 20 yard end-zones and a 70 yard central-zone. When playing in informal settings, it is common to use a smaller field and smaller teams ("mini"), as shown here.
The rules of Ultimate are unique amongst team sports because it is played without a referee. Instead, players are responsible for making their own calls, and the rules specify what to do if two teams disagree on a call. To make this work, the culture of Ultimate also strongly emphasizes "The Spirit of the Game": a standard of good conduct by which players should abide. In other words, you could say, like LEGO, Ultimate encourages us to "Play Well".
