Scene: "Gandalf! Fireworks!"
During the scene of Gandalf's arrival at the Shire, the music begins to swell, and a flock of Hobbit children come chasing after his horse-drawn cart, pleading to see his fireworks. To their immense disappointment, Gandalf adopts a stern expression of disapproval and drives on. But just as he turns the corner toward Bag End, a dazzling shower of sparkling fireworks pops and whizzes out from a cloud of smoke in the back of his cart. The children squeal and cheer in delight while Frodo grins and Gandalf chuckles heartily to himself.
This little moment in The Fellowship of the Ring is quaint compared with the epic battles and adventures to follow, but it succinctly and beautifully captures the joy and innocence that the Fellowship swears their lives to protect.
