Scene: Bard Faces Smaug
“Then Bard drew his bow-string to his ear. The dragon was circling back, flying low, and as he came the moon rose above the eastern shore and silvered his great wings.”
The scene I have recreated takes place on the rooftops of Lake-town; Bard the Bowman is positioned at the top of the bell tower with his black arrow in hand as Smaug swoops towards him over the buildings that he has set ablaze below.
This is an entirely physical build in which Smaug measures approximately 55cm in length!
I also built in a feature to capture the motion of the scene - when the small crank (which is exposed at the rear of the building) is turned, the stilts which Smaug sits upon will oscillate, raising and lower him from side to side as though he is swaying through the wind.
I largely based this build on the opening scene of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. I hope you enjoy!
