New Kumasi Marketplace

In this vision of Afrofuturism, technology enhances, but does not replace, the vibrant community of the African marketplace. A fusion of traditional Ashanti culture and futuristic themes is reflected in the vendors of gold-plated metalwork, painted woodwork, clothing, masks, crystals, and street art. Wheeled robots bring out the freshest fish, seafood, fruits, and vegetables. An energetic “Highlife” band performs on a stage emblazoned with symbolic sculptures. On the left is a fulfillment center with a Kente cloth-patterned exterior where an extensive variety of locally produced merchandise may be ordered, purchased in-person and/or delivered by drone aircraft. On the right is a multi-use high-rise with restaurant, workplaces, and apartments, featuring an elevated transport connection, exterior plantings, solar panels, and natural ventilation. An expansive glass canopy ensures an enjoyable gathering regardless of the weather.
