The Giraffe Gate
An ancient gate stands in the sun. Where does it lead? To the ruins of an ancient city? To the other side of the galaxy? To success in the Afrofuturistic Building Contest? ;)
This gate is inspired by a giraffe statue of my mother’s, who grew up in Zimbabwe, and by Moroccan architecture. Like many others I wanted to try out Ekow’s style of building in all black. I enjoyed the simplicity of finding pieces and the focus on shape and texture.
The hardest part of this build was the giraffe's lower legs. I went through fifteen iterations of them and am still not completely satisfied. But that doesn't mean you should go examine them more closely. (Hey, I said don't look! :) I am most pleased with the giraffe's head and how I was able to capture certain features at this scale.
