She Who Balances

Afrofuturism is a love letter. A piece of art that respects the past, embraces the future, and cherishes the present moment in it’s creation. This sculpture is an homage to some of the beautiful work I’ve seen that brings together African culture, art, technology, and fantasy. Elements that represent various points in time, and yet remain perfectly balanced.

I was very drawn to modern and historical African wood sculpture, the elegance of gold in Afrofuturistic art — and the wonders of sci-fi seen with flying saucers being thematic throughout. I wanted this to feel familiar in human form… and yet otherworldly. I hope you enjoy! :)
