Intellectual Sports - Scripps National Spelling Bee
Can you spell "auslaut"? How about "erysipelas", "bougainvillea", "aiguillette", "pendeloque", "palama", "cernuous", or "odylic"? Today, I present to you a model of the most prestigious academic competition ever: the Scripps National Spelling Bee! This model depicts the finals of the 2019 bee, in which a record-breaking 8 spellers were declared champion! This event was broadcast live on ESPN, the American sports network, and despite being an American competition, included contestants from several other countries. All eight champions are included in this model, as well as pronouncer Jacques Bailly, backup Brian Sietsema, and judge Paige Kimble. Also included are the coveted trophy, the dreaded elimination bell, an ESPN camera boom, and the luxurious backdrop of the Maryland ballroom at the convention center.
Also, I think it could be cool to find out just how many spellers are on LEGO ideas! If you feel comfortable with it, speak up! (For example, I am a former competitor.)
