Ancient Olympics
The ancient Greek Olympics was the forebearer of the modern Olympics and a great blend of history and sports. The ancient Greek time period is one that LEGO never really explored (at least to my knowledge), and I thought this would make a great tribute to one of the most powerful empires of all time and the beginnings of organized sports.
I tried my best to not have the model just be a giant field with minifigures by adding in a temple (since the games were held in honor of their god Zeus), a detailed tree, a merchant's ship, and a canopy for the king.
The build had 919 pieces, and the minifigures include:
- Three competitors (who actually competed nude, but I added clothes to keep it appropriate)
- Two soldiers
- A merchant
- A king/ruler (The Greeks divided the empire into city-states, each one ruled by its own king)
- And a priestess
There are also many accesories, and the wide field and temple's removable roof make the model very playable, but the temple itself is also detailed and very displayable.
