Mars Mission Power Plant

My favorite Lego theme from my early childhood was Mars Mission! I have many fond memories of playing the Mars Mission game: Crystalien Conflict. In that game, there were various facilities that you needed to build, one of which was the Power Plant. Power Plants are the lifeforce of Mars Mission operations, and as such you would build a lot of them.

In set form, the Power Plant was available in two sets as a large air pump piece. One of those sets was set 7690 - MB-01 Eagle Command Base, one of my favorite sets! As the air pump system has been retired, I thought it would be fun to provide an affordable, brick-built way for Lego fans to acquire more Power Plants to build out their Mars Mission displays.

I have here two modernized astros with gear inspired by the Mars Mission game (including a slight modernization of the iconic Jetpack Explorer also from set 7690). Rather than operate an air pump, the Power Plant has a tube with an energized panel on the end of it for recharging machines.
