First Favourite Set
When I was ten years old, there was nothing more thrilling to me than Lego. I saved up my allowance for ages to buy the vibrant yellow forklift. I can’t quite recall which version it was, but my love for it was undeniable. I built it countless times, to the point where I didn’t even need the instructions anymore.
I was captivated by how it operated, how I could steer it and make it function just like a real forklift. Unlike the simple cars that only rolled back and forth, this was true sophistication in my eyes. I poured all my pocket money into my dreams, eagerly flipping through the 50-cent catalogue, wishing and hoping that my parents might agree to split the cost for my birthday!
That set held a special place in my heart, and I wanted future generations to experience the ingenious simplicity and wonder of the early Technic sets.
While many of the original pieces are now hard to find, I’ve done my best to recreate it with the modern bricks available today.
