On the Golden Shores
Where it all began, twenty-one years ago.
I wasn't alive when the bionicle line began. Nor was my exposure to it (at the age of four, during the phantoka line) the Toa Mata's arrival. But all these years later, when I look back on the legend of the bionicle, this is the scene that sticks out to me. The cinematic of a canister washing up on a golden shore, of a figure assembling itself to become Tahu, Toa of fire. I still get chills seeing it, because it continues to instill me with the feeling that Tahu's arrival begins a story of monumental proportions. Through all the epic battles and triumphs of the toa, this is the scene that I think of when I think of bionicle. A canister (or six) washing up on a golden shore. A figure assembling itself. And the sense that his arrival begets something more, something legendary. The Legend of the Bionicle.
