Mobile Suit Gundam RX-78-2
Gundam!
The RX-78-2 Prototype is the seminal "Real Robot" - it first appeared in the TV Series Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 at the dawn of the 1970s.
The program flopped, but its mature anti-war plot earned it a cult status throughout the 1980s. It is now an icon of Pop Culture!
Gundam was the first Anime to present robots as plain military vehicles, unlike previous mechanical heroes such as Atom, Tetsujin, Mazinger... (by the way: check out my Mazinger Trilogy on Lego Ideas!)
The RX-78-2 displayed a wonderful design by Kunio Okawara, mixing traditional Samurai armour elements with eye-catching primary colours.
I have done my best to render the RX-78-2 at 1/100 scale (around 19cm high). The set contains over 400 parts and features:
- 1 RX-78-2 figure (articulated at all major joints);
- 1 Beam Rifle (with articulated sensor and foregrip);
- 1 Hyper Bazooka;
- 1 Shield;
- 2 Beam Sabers;
- 1 shooting burst effect.
