ART Contest: Everyday Abstract
I created this piece to fascinate and intrigue the Lego staff who will work in the new Billund campus. This piece attempts to create wonder and beauty, while also conveying secret messages for those who look more closely. My hope was that the people who pass it everyday would find new enjoyment with each viewing.
The piece can be "read" left to right as a series of changing colors. What starts as an homage to Dutch painter Piet Mondrian's bold primary colors and geometric shapes, then grows in complexity and diversity. There is also a nod to the Lego company's early roots with some wood pieces and a duck at the bottom left. In the top right, there is an oddity of color and shape. It doesn't conform to the rest of the piece because it has not happened yet. It is the dreams of the creators, whether Lego employees, children building in their bedrooms, or adults planning expansive creations.
There are many other secrets and messages in the piece, but you must look to see them.
