Tiggs the Elder Electronic Eye Portrait
I present to you a reformatted version of a creation that I built in late 2013: a mosaic portrait of my deceased Maine Coon "Tiggs"
– wired with electronics! The original 2013 edition was one of my
early electronic models, which used crude circuits and a poorly-built
wiring structure with dull lighting. In spring 2016 I hollowed out the
top portion of this large mosaic in order to install a new electronic
grid with homemade LED matrices for more vibrant light output. In the
back of the portrait is a 12V DC adapter, which connects to two LED
circuit boards corresponding to the cat's eyes. When the switch at the
top is activated, both eyes illuminate colorfully. This portrait was damaged pretty badly when I moved into my new apartment in spring 2020, but I've made some major repairs to make sure my cat's legacy lives on. The LEGO portrait of the cat's face uses hundreds of brown, dark red, and orange pieces to mimic his fur pattern, and the eyes use Technic bricks and transparent plates.
