Piano key action
I
play piano since I was 13 and with this project I want to honor this wonderful
instrument, very rich of color and expression. My other passion is of course
LEGO, so the idea was to replicate the complex functional action of the piano using
LEGO bricks, with working moving parts.
The
model includes: a piano key (in white); the action (in red); the hammer (in
yellow) and the damper (in dark grey) near the string (in light grey). When the key is
pressed, the damper rises and the action pushes the hammer, which "jumps"
on the spring and suddenly falls down. There is also a replicate of the sustain
pedal action (in black), that can rise the damper, allowing free vibration of the
spring.
The
movement is not perfect, so I'm still working to make it more fluid and I also
want to add the double escapement mechanism. I think that this model is fun to
build and play with, and it is very useful to understand the mechanics of this
complex instrument.
Thanks
for watching and happy building!
